AirGreen History

AirGreen History

AirGreen Inc. was reorganized as a Delaware C-Corp in November 2017 from AirGreen LLC. The company has its main offices and assembly facility in New Castle, Delaware.

AirGreen manufactures a novel and patented air conditioning and dehumidification system designed to provide superior comfort while also saving significant energy costs. Unlike traditional mechanical cooling systems, AirGreen uses a closed-loop liquid desiccant system to strip the moisture (humidity) from the air while also cooling it.

The AirGreen system has been designed to provide superior comfort at substantial lower operating costs. If humidity is an issue – this is where AirGreen’s performance really sets us apart. When compared to mechanical systems that overcool and reheat to control humidity, the AirGreen technology can save up to 60% in cooling season energy costs. And because we are providing comfort with much drier air, the actual A/C setpoint can be raised a few degrees with no loss in comfort. Finally, our liquid desiccant cooling system also scrubs the air of pollutants, pathogens, and microbes, improving air quality and reducing the chance of mold formation – which can occur frequently when moisture and humidity are not controlled.

The AirGreen technology improves the reliability, economy and efficiency of any manufacturing or processing operation that is humidity-,temperature- or microorganism-sensitive. We provide reliable, precise and economical temperature and humidity control. Advantages include:

  • Reduced energy costs via simultaneous air cooling and dehumidification
  • Neutralization of airborne microorganisms and pathogens
  • Reduction or elimination of mold and bacteria
  • Improved ventilation via more energy-efficient treatment of outside air
  • Reduced refrigeration tonnage by eliminating costly sub cooling and reheat of process air
  • Improved product quality

The heart of our proprietary process is a patented multi-stage liquid desiccant system that can handle Latent Heat Ratios up to 100%. The products use both cold and hot water to provide sensible and latent cooling in summer and heating and humidification in winter. Enthalpy recovery from the exhaust airstream is approximately 85%. When used with a water-to-water heat pump both the cold and hot sides are produced at very high efficiency, where CoPs are typically 5.0 or higher on each side.

As compared to existing desiccant wheel dehumidification technologies, and other chemical dehumidification systems, AirGreen provides a cost-effective approach that is both reliable and efficient.

AirGreen installed and commissioned a number of initial commercial demonstration applications during 2019 and launched its 3rd generation commercial design during the 4th quarter of 2020.  We plan to exhibit this breakthrough technology at the forthcoming AHR/ASHRAE conference in Las Vegas in early 2022.

AirGreen Mission

AirGreen Mission

It is AirGreen’s mission to design, manufacture, and deliver a new and innovative approach to air conditioning – one that provides significantly lower operating costs and lower energy consumption, is more environmentally friendly and sustainable, addresses significant shortfalls in treating humidity, and provides superior indoor air quality by allowing more outside (fresh) air while also killing various pathogens including bacteria, molds, and viruses, including COVID-19.

The expected rapid growth of HVAC applications worldwide represents one of our largest climate challenges facing both industrialized and developing countries. Traditional mechanical cooling technologies will only exacerbate the energy and emissions problems.

AirGreen Vision

AirGreen Vision

At AirGreen, it is our goal to contribute to combating climate change by providing a different approach to HVAC and dehumidification design in a way that does not add to the growing problem but provides a better solution.  Left unchecked, the expansion of traditional mechanical conditioning systems in a warmer world will actually add to the climate issue, requiring significantly more greenhouse gases that are a traditional by-product of powering such systems.

  • We will deliver commercially competitive systems that save more than 50-60% of the energy costs when compared to traditional mechanical cooling systems and will do it in such a way that scrubs the air of unwanted pathogens.
  • We will provide custom systems for indoor agriculture applications to significantly lower the energy footprint of such facilities – facilities designed to solve future food supply needs or provide other valuable crops.
  • We will provide cost-effective solutions for schools that increase fresh air ventilation and better indoor air quality and thus provide better conditions for learning.
  • We will provide systems with improved energy efficiency, particularly in applications where humidity control is important.
  • We will develop solutions that combine hot water from solar applications and chilled water from geothermal systems to set a new benchmark for the energy efficiency of air conditioning systems.

All the AirGreen products are made in the USA.
